The ‘Cases’ Somerset Rebels may have moved up into the top tier of UK speedway this season but one thing remains the same in 2017, their annual golf day, which will again take place in August at Brean Golf Club.

With the SGB Premiership fixtures now published, Somerset Promoter Debbie Hancock and Brean Golf Club PGA Professional and Director of Golf, Andrew March, have agreed a date agreed for the 5th staging of the event, which will be a bit earlier than in previous years.

“Following feedback from some of those who took part last year regarding the close proximity of the 2016 Golf Day to the August Bank Holiday, we have decided to stage this year’s Golf Day slightly earlier on Friday August 4th, with the Rebels due to face Belle Vue at the Oaktree Arena that evening,” explained Andrew March.

“The Golf Day will follow the format used in the past, that of teams of four competing in the Texas Scramble format and will get underway at 10am, after the traditional coffee and bacon rolls, and at the conclusion of the day’s golf, we will all reconvene at the Oaktree in the afternoon for a buffet and prize-giving to the various winners prior to then watching the Rebels league match against the Aces.”

“Whilst we have yet to set the entry fee for the day, I would envisaged it to be around the £140 per team (of four) charged in 2016, the entry fee also including the admission cost for that evening’s speedway match.”

“Full details of the Golf Day will be announced shortly, which will include various sponsorship opportunities for those who may not be able to take part in the day itself, and hopefully we will have a good number of players and teams participating once again this year as we look to raise further funds for the Rebels towards the maintenance of the Air-Fence, to add to the £9,000 already raised from the previous four Golf Days!”
